Terica Bell - Salon Owner, Instructor & Master Stylist

Terica Bell is not your average stylist, you can say she’s been groomed for her career since youth! With a supportive partner, parents and siblings in her corner, Terica’s dreams had no choice but to come true.

Christmas Day, age 8, she received enough supplies and tools as gifts that led to the creation of a mini salon in her bedroom. Terica then started to create hair styles and practice hair trends on any willing customer. Her customers started off as family and neighbors but then quickly came friends and schoolmates. As a teenager, she emerged from being a rookie, and focused on mastering certain techniques seen in braided styles. With the type of determination that few posses , Terica improved on those skills consistently until 2009. Terica’s dreams were about to become a reality.

Terica enrolled in Vatterott Career College’s cosmetology program in 2009, and graduated within one year. During her time at Vatterott she enjoyed being the youngest student and soaked up all of the knowledge from her peers and instructors. However, Terica placed her passion on hold. Terica enrolled at the University of Memphis to pursue a Bachelors Degree. While in college she became actively involved on campus and in the community. She had a few clients whom hair she would do in her dorm room. Though she was talented and enjoyed styling hair she never took it seriously. One day she received an email stating that she had 1 year to take her cosmetology state exam or she would lose the 1500 hours she obtained. She thought about not taking the exam but after talking to a friend they encouraged her to just go take the test. Terica registered for the state licensing exam in 2014. She failed. Twice. However, being the determined woman she is, she buckled down to ensure success so she could pass the exam. May 2014, Terica received her TN state license for cosmetology. Obtaining her license had her fueled with the fire to press forward and “see” what the beauty industry would bring her. Terica secured her first booth at Justinas Salon (a local salon). The industry went from just being a hobby to a lucrative career in just 4 months. Her clientele was booming. Though she couldn’t believe it others around her knew her potential and knew she was already assured of success. Her passion was worthy of much congratulations, and the support she was receiving pushed her to transcend to the next level.

On January 9th 2015, Terica opened Fabellous Beauty Lounge while still in the process of completing her Bachelors Degree. This was stepping out on faith, but Terica had a dream and vision to fulfill. In May 2015 she became a first generation college graduate. She graduated Magna Cum Laude which is very commendable considering the obstacles thrown at her and her decision to open a salon while on the pursuit of a degree. Terica started off trying various stylist rental agreements and service offerings at Fabellous. Her clientele grew. Her skills sharpened. Her business savvy flourished. She focused on building a solid name for her salon built on all things quality. She went from stylist to BOSS overnight! However, she remained humbled and honest, which is the reason why many are attracted to Fabellous. This helped mold her beauty lounge into one of the most premiere salons in the city of Memphis, TN. Fabellous Beauty Lounge now boasts 9 staff members that offer an array of top services for hair, nails, and spa.

Terica is a dreamer, but she is a doer. She has held on to her dreams, but she mixed in loads of hard work. Her work ethic shines as an example to others, and her story exemplifies Black Girl Magic. Terica Bell is “Fabellous “ embodied, and encourages all stylists to stay consistent and keep following their dreams!
